Felony Assistant State’s Attorney

Mark Hitt received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English, with a minor in Political Science, from Elmhurst College in 1993.  He graduated from DePaul University, College of Law in February 1997.  Mark began his career in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in 1998, leaving in 2011.  In that time period, he tried hundreds of motions and felony cases in front of juries, as well as Judges – cases ranging from traffic matters to 1st Degree Murder cases involving gang members.

 

From there, Mark spent nearly seven years with the City of Chicago, as a supervising investigator with the Independent Police Review Authority, reviewing investigations of excessive force and racial bias alleged to have occurred by sworn officers.  As a supervising investigator, he also responded to scenes of police-involved shootings and conducted preliminary investigations and evidence collection in those matters.

 

After practicing in the fields of criminal defense and family law, Mark returned to prosecution, here in Grundy County.  His focus is on felony offenses, along with misdemeanor and felony domestic battery cases.
